We have officially made it through 1/2 of the boys’ first year!!! I cannot believe they are already 6 months old (really almost 7 months now)!! I know I say this every time, but the months seem to go by so fast and this month was not any different.
However, this month was particularly challenging. It has been the month of illness around our house. It all started off with Ian getting an ear infection, we went to the Dr and started him on an antibiotic. On the 10th and last day of Ian’s antibiotic Noah became really fussy and started pulling at his ear, so we went to the Dr and discovered that he now had an ear infection. We then started him on an antibiotic.
Somewhere in the middle of Noah’s ear infection I got sick with this horrendous cold and had a runny nose, awful cough, and my throat hurt more than you could imagine. Turns out it was a virus and there wasn’t much I could do. The day before I got better, Ian caught my virus. He became really fussy and quit eating because his throat hurt so bad. We eventually had to put him on an alternating schedule of Motrin and Tylenol just to keep his pain under control.
Now we are all finally well and I am praying it stays that way, because this Mama is tired! Even through all this sickness we have had some pretty fun memories this month!
Noah weighed in this month at 21lbs 1oz and 27 inches long. He is now in the 75th percentile for height and 95th percentile for weight!
He is almost 5lbs bigger than Ian and an inch longer! It is amazing how different the boys are even though they are twins. Noah is definitely our most laid back of the two. He is perfectly happy laying on his back just observing the world around him.
Our pediatrician asked us how mobile the boys are during their 6 month appointment and although Noah can move when he wants to, he doesn’t want to very often. There are times when he really really wants something that he will role over to get it, but those moments are few and far between.
Noah laughs about 90% of the time. He just thinks everything is so funny, especially if it is something involving Ziggy. He absolutely adores Ziggy and loves watching her roll around on the floor. Noah also smiles loves to smile. He hardly ever gets upset, but if he does it is very difficult to calm him down. We joke that he is the easiest baby on earth, and we really think he is!
Noah absolutely adores his Daddy. When he is fussy all it takes is for Daddy to walk into the room and suddenly his world is alright again. It is truly amazing! Jeremy is like Noah’s walking pacifier! Noah now has two teeth on the bottom and they are the cutest things you have ever seen. This little boy has the biggest smile and now every time he smiles you see his two teeth peeking through! It’s so cute!!
Noah is getting pretty good at sitting up, but he really doesn’t like to sit up, he would much rather be laying on his back or hanging upside down. I swear this kid wishes he were a bat! He loves to be hung upside down and would stay that way all day if we would let him.
We recently moved Noah into his high chair and he loves it! He especially likes to play with these connect rings while in his high chair because he can shake them around and make as much noise as he wants. This little boys loves noise! For a laid back baby he sure is loud! He loves to shout and makes sure everyone can hear him!
Ian weighed in this month at 16lbs 6 oz and is 26 inches long. He is officially in the 25th percentile for height and weight. Although he is smaller than Noah he has grown almost 3 inches in two months! He is trying to catch up with his brother! We are so excited that his height and weight are finally catching up to each other. At Ian’s 4 month appointment he was measuring in the 25th percentile for weight but only in the 5th-10th percentile for height, so this little man is growing!
Ian is our mobile child! He loves to be moving! Ian can sit up really really well on his own, but what he really likes is for you to stand him up next to his toys so he can play. Ian is curious about everything and never stays still for very long. He won’t even stay still long enough for you to feed him! He can roll any where he wants to go, and I do believe he will be crawling pretty soon. He is really starting to push himself up when he is on his belly and he keeps trying really hard to pull his knees underneath him!
Ian can stand on his own as long as you have something for him to hold on to. He actually prefers to be standing and is constantly reaching for something to explore. This little man is so curious about everything. Jeremy has been teaching Ian how to make various noises with his mouth and now Jeremy can show the noise to Ian and he will mimic Jeremy and do it right back to him. It is the cutest thing you have ever seen!
Although Ian could probably eat Noah’s weight in baby food, he is not too sure about this high chair thing yet! I think he looks at it as one more thing to confine him and keep him from wiggling around!
This little man may be little, but he sure loves to eat real food! His favorite food is pears with cinnamon and oatmeal. Kind of strange, I know, but he loves it!
Ian now has two teeth on the bottom. He had both of his teeth come in at the same time which meant for a rough teething experience, but at least they were both through the gum at the same time!
Ian is a little more temperamental than Noah, and will definitely let you know when he isn’t happy. Although he can get upset rather quickly, he really is a very happy baby. This little man giggles all the time! All you have to do is look at him and make a noise and he will just bust out in laughter! I just love baby giggles! It can make any bad day 100% better if I just get to hear his little giggles.
The boys are both growing so much, and as they grow older they are also growing closer together. This month they became much more aware of each other. It is so much fun to see them get excited when the other one enters the room, or see their face light up when they see their brother. They also kind of talk to each other can calm each other down if one is upset.
The negative is that because they notice each other they also notice each other’s toys and have started taking toys away from each other and getting jealous if one is playing with something the other wants. I had no idea this started so early!!
I have already has to start using a little discipline with the boys. It really isn’t much, but if they are playing with a toy and start getting really frustrated and whiny while playing I tell them that is not proper behavior and they cannot play with the toy that way, then if it continues I take the toy away. I know they are still too young to fully understand, but also don’t want them to think they can just yell and scream and get whatever they want. I think small steps of discipline now will bring us great reward in the future.
Well 6 months has been exciting! I know this year is already going by so fast and it will just continue to speed by even faster. I also know that my time of only having the boys is going to come to an end soon, so I am trying to treasure every moment.
I cannot express how much joy these precious boys bring to my life. I love each of them more than you could imagine! I feel so blessed every day just to have the opportunity to be there mom. I cannot wait for month 7! I know it is going to be a great month full of many exciting adventures!
I just wanted to take this last moment to share this video with you. This is Ian and Noah trying out their high-chairs for the first time. Noah absolutely loves being in his high chair, but Ian thinks they are boring and would rather sleep!
